Alexis Taylor is one of the UK’s most distinctive singer-songwriters - both individually, and as part of pop giants Hot Chip.

A singular voice, he’s built a substantial body of solo work over the years. His seventh album, Paris In The Spring, proving Taylor’s most revealing album yet, peeling back the layers of his psyche to reveal sentiments both specific and universal. The subject matter doesn’t shy away from hard-hitting themes but musically, it’s carefree, brightly lit and contemporary, drawing on leftfield pop, country, elegant disco-house and Vangelis-inspired soundscapes.

The new single ‘Time’ with The Blessed Madonna and Pat Alvarez is out now, and will feature on a new Remix EP, out on 4 September, which includes remixes by Sasha, Solid Wall, and Jack Lever.

“Marea (Blessed Madonna) and Pat Alvarez and I got together in a small underground studio and put together the embryonic version of this song in a moment of first (musical) connections, quite quickly. Marea told me she never let her own voice be on records usually, but Pat and I encouraged her to include her singing. It’s beautiful. “Even touching time isn’t time enough” is her own hypnotic riddle and is a fascinating hook I think. The lyrics and melodies beyond that came from me - a song I was writing about someone losing their mother. Imagined scenarios dealing with death and loss and a life being remembered and honoured. You know, cheery stuff for a house banger.

Pat and I worked on the music on further sessions with his Solid Wall partner Lucas, and I enjoyed trying to give the guitar an underwater feel; Neil Young’s ‘Will To Love’ was being channelled for that element, and the Beach Boys’ ‘Til I Die’ also with the added (Mellotron) vibraphone parts. I think the song is an unusual and emotive mix of powerful epic ballad with house- leaning dancefloor track. Who knows how to dance to such a thing?” - Alexis Taylor

Released in March 2026, his latest album ‘Paris In The Spring’ counts as one of his best-received solo albums to date, with accolades from Classic Pop, UNCUT, Mojo, Disco Pogo, the Guardian, Liberation, Tsugi and more. Testament to his skill as a curator, Alexis called upon other impressive individuals to help create the album’s effervescent sound world; Lola Kirke, The Avalanches, Air’s Nicolas Godin, Oli Bayston (Boxed In), Étienne de Crécy, Pierre Rousseau (Paradis), Ewan Pearson, and Scritti Politti’s Green Gartside.

In this world, the confessional style of country greats is charged by the pop melodicism of Paul McCartney, the futuristic funk of Sly and the Family Stone and, as Taylor puts it, “synthesizers left out in the rain”. It’s where British Americana meets Gallic flair, somewhere on Mars. Is it his cosmic cowboy record? “Well,” he smiles, “the working title was Cocaine, Wild Horses and Real Love.”
